Hello everyone
Here is the deal this Drama Queen is tiered of applying for jobs at the moment. I have to admit this is probably the worst time to be applying for jobs. Everyone is banging on about this recession and you know what they might have a point. However, I offer an alternative reason why the job market is so bad at the moment. Has anyone else realised that one can apply for jobs until the cows come home but the actual companies themselves never see your application or your CV. The reason for this my fellow drama queens is that the lovely people at job agencies are blocking the applications and then they send the lovely e-mail saying sorry but your basically not good enough.
Don’t you just love it that from one look at someone’s CV they can comment on whether or not that person is good enough? This would be understandable and ok if the CV’s ever got to the actual company one might be applying for. Also, how about this whole overqualified thing? This Drama Queen has just graduated from university with a second undergrad degree and is currently looking for a job. I did try to do everything the right way, i.e. worked all the way through my second degree in relevant roles and also ran my own business and still nothing. Seriously who are these people think they are kidding? Overqualified? That would basically translate that the company or recruiters think that the job is beneath you and that you would be TOO GOOD at it and consequently get bored. The thing is when did it become ok to punish people for being ambitious and play the game of yes let me get some experience during my degree and then the job hunt should be easier. Sadly, the people who are getting the jobs are the people who coasted through their degree and probably their life.
The joke of the matter is that when one talks to some recruiters on the phone or god forbid in person, they tell you “great you have relevant experience and it should be a doddle to get a job”. They lie. They are just raising the numbers they have as applicants.
I will however say this drama queen is not completely irrational, I do realise that this is the system for a reason, companies do not have enough time or resources to do the recruiting themselves and this is why they hire the dreaded Job agencies. Nevertheless, I will ask you this, doesn’t it seem like the best way for a company to spend their money would be to spend it in hiring staff themselves and having full control over who they hire. This would make sense, wouldn’t it? Being more proactive in getting the people who will be doing all the work in order to make the company successful and thus earning you more money?
Anyway I think this Queen has rambled enough

I tend to agree with you. I have never had a positive experience with employment agencies.
Actually, when I have been involved in recruiting, I have always been very keen to do it myself. I can't think why people think it is such a chore to do recruitment that they want to outsource it. It's very interesting.
