  • Brits on holiday 17/10/08

    Dear Cyber Drama Queens

Hey there everyone. Hope all of you are well today and are ready for a nice long relaxing weekend. But before we all go and enjoy ourselves this weekend, I would like to take a moment of your time to discuss the matter of brits abroad. I know you all have a very good idea where i am going to go with this one.

The first thing i would like to suggest we consider is why brits always insist on taking their culture wherever they go on holiday and are very hesitant to try something new. You all know what I mean by this, how many times have we all gone on holiday somewhere were there are plenty of brits and all you can see are services that you get back home. Like being able to get more English breakfasts most touristy places these days than their local cuisine. I know some of you will go on to say that either you or someone you know has had a really bad case of food poisoning when you have been away on holiday. Have you thought of the fact that you probable got food poisoning because you visited a touristy restaurant which served, “below standard” “local food”? Trust me if you take the time to go an visit some of the restaurants that locals visit then not only are you in for a pleasant food surprise but also a good authentic atmosphere.

Also sometimes when on holiday brits tend to do things that they would do in their own country and possibly get away with it. I know a story of some English lads that went to Crete and decided to moon people while in the ancient ruins of Knossos. Then they had the nerve to get offended that they got arrested and that the council was pressing charges. The thing is some people may state that this is a limited occurrence. However they would be wrong, there are thousands of stories like this one when people just don’t think. Like a woman from England who went to Sicily and went to her hotel room drunk and on drugs and she left her door open and she got raped. Don’t get me wrong rape is a bad bad thing but seriously!!! She then went on to sue the hotel for liable. I mean come one people out there must be thinking you would never do that back home and to some extend you must take some responsibility for your actions, not obviously for the getting raped part but for the leaving your door wide open and stumbling back to your room drunk.

I will just leave this question with you guys. Wouldn’t you enjoy going to country, trying the local cuisine and conducting yourself properly, of course let your hair down, but don’t be stupid? That way your fellow tourists will enjoy themselves, you will too and also the locals won’t end up resenting you.

  • Madonna put some clothes on 15/10/08

    Dear fellow Drama Queens

I am back after a long stint away from my PC. I have decided that I will try and write posts on a daily basis but will take the weekends off to recoup and regroup as they say. Well, now that that is out of the way I would like to talk to you about Madonna.

Don’t get me wrong I like Madonna and her music, but something needs to be said about the poor woman’s wardrobe at this stage. It is my personal opinion that she needs to start wearing more clothes, full stop. She does have an amazing body, especially for her age. We all know this however and we are very proud of her and she gives us all hope that will a good deal of dedication we can all have a great figure. However, there are ways of showing of your body without looking quite so slutty, especially at this age. Sadly I do think she will be a victim of her own bad dress sense at the moment. I know a large number of people who are now getting appalled by her state of undress. I know some of you will say well what has changed; she has always had a revealing dress sense, lest we not forget the bosom cones of the past.

The problem however, now, is that she is officially 50 and she has 2 young children. I am not saying she should dress frumpy, god forbid. But do we really need to see a 50 year old woman prancing around on stage and in her music videos with very little on. Also think about her children, how would you have liked it if your mum was wearing that when she was in her 50’s? Exactly!!! She is a legend in her own right, but I think what I am trying to say here is that Madonna you should put some clothes on or you are bound to start loosing fans. This would be a shame because your music and your persona is fantastic and it has got you where you are today let’s not ruin it by some bad wardrobe issues.

Let me say that I am sure some of you will not agree with me but hey, this is my opinion on the matter

  • Eating healthy!!! 10/10/08

    Dear Cyber Drama Queens

How is everyone today? Hope you have all had a great week and are ready to relax this weekend! Today’s little rant will be about the issue of supermarket chains. You know which one I am talking about the one everyone is saying has got the monopoly of the market. In all fairness this comment is almost accurate. Also I will attempt to endeavour the issue of distance travelled for most food readily available at your local supermarket.

Well starting on the supermarket lets call it T. Well people are always going on about how bad it is, this may be true in some manner but until the other supermarket chains start placing readily available branches in central London then they get no sympathy from me. I mean come on i am not going to travel 5-10 miles in order to get groceries that defeats the purpose of being green. Also don’t have a car. The weird thing is that the other supermarket chains that are complaining about T. Cant grasp the fact that all the 4 major supermarket labels in the UK are serving completely different markets and T. Serves the largest market in numbers across the UK that’s why they get a larger share of the market. This is mainly due to pricing. If these other chains have issues, I say lower your prices.

They are probably wondering why people wont buy from them, well I am sorry but some things are inexcusable to be so expensive. Now coming onto the topic of air miles for the food and where it comes from. There is a very simple solution, people should stop buying veg that is out of season or that cannot be grown in the UK or stop buying food that cannot be produced in the UK. Or the other very simple solution is stop whining about it. Funny how these people are not whinging about the fact that all the healthy food is taxed to death and most of the unhealthy fattening things are still cheap as they don’t get taxed to death. Then they wonder why we have such large obesity numbers in the UK. Make the healthy food cheap and the unhealthy food should get taxed considerably and i tell you people will be eating healthier in no time.

I come from somewhere where people only eat fruit and veg that is in season and is grown nationally and the imported stuff is shunned, why can’t it be the same here. This by no means not embarrassing other cultures food, which would be narrow minded and people would end up missing out.

Anyway I think I have gone on too much.
Let me know what you think!

  • Alcohol in Britain 9/10/08

    Dear cyber Drama Queens

Today’s little rant will be about the matter of Alcohol consumption here in the UK. I am sure many of you will know what I am talking about when I go on to say that most people here are light alcoholics. I mean look at the average amount of alcohol consumed during a typical night out. If you take it out of the context of having a few drinks when out with friends you will know what I mean. They say the average units of alcohol that a person in the UK consumes when out on the town with friends is roughly 6-7 units. How think for a minute if you had the same amount on a daily basis and then try to tell me you’re not a slight alcoholic.

Coming from one of the warm countries in the world, I come from a culture that can have a few drinks on occasion but is not considered the norm to drink every time you are out with friends. This is not a fair comparison I hear most of you scream, as in warm countries if you drink to much the heat gets to you and you get dehydrated, that’s why the don’t drink. This might be true but then you are also claiming that the reason why people drink here is due to the cold weather. Well... this may have been true a few decades ago but these days due to changing climates and global warming this country is nowhere near as cold as it used to be. Furthermore, most places are now indoors and heated which negates the need to drink to keep warm.

This amount of drinking not only puts a massive pinch on a person’s wallet but also on the overall economy and the NHS. Think if you would, for a minute, how much money is spent daily on treatment for liver failure due to drinking, or obesity, which is made worse by the amount of alcohol people consume. Some people also go on to state that they drink in order to socialise, that comment is so out there I am not even sure if you need me to tell you how much is wrong with that statement. If you need alcohol in order to socialise then maybe you should try and work on your shyness rather than getting blind drunk. The other day I had a conversation with a person I know who is from the UK and the person asked me if I went out on the weekend, to which I replied yes, Said person then asked if I got drunk, to which I replied no. This person then went on to say “shame so you had a bad night then?” OH my god is this how people here see drinking; you need to be blind drunk in order to have a good night?

Anyway I think I may have gone on too long and in order not to get hateful comments, I will stop here.

  • NHS not working!!! 8/10/08

    Dear Drama Queens

Here is today’s second post and in this section I will give you some of my opinions about the health system here in the UK. I am sure people are groaning as they read this. Most people would agree that the medical system in this country is lacking in more than one field but let just visit one of the main ones that affect the general population directly.

I am guessing people all over the UK have experienced the issue of waiting an eternity to see a doctor or to get a treatment. Isn’t this the most annoying thing ever? What is the point of paying taxes for a system which is in its core broken? Having done my first degree in the field of medical research I can maybe comment on the medical side too. I am sure people agree with me when I say what is the point of paying taxes for a free medical system which makes you wait so long to get any form of diagnosis or treatment? I have friends who have serious illnesses and the medical system here treats them as if they have a common cold and does not give them priority. Does this make sense? The only excuse that people can come up with for this deficiency is that “well at least it’s free”. Well I ask you is there any point in having a medical system that is so flawed that you need to go private just to get some service?

Many people criticise the USA for having a private medical system, but in essence don’t we have the same here in the UK? How many of you have ended up going private just in order to get some service? The people I feel really sorry for however is the people who don’t have the financial ability to go private. The system was made for them and its not even achieving to serve the people that it was created for. I am not even going to go into the matter of getting below standard treatment from this “free medical system” because as we all know through personal experience and through stories from our loved ones, these instances are plentiful.

I personally think its appalling that you have to wait up to a week or two to see a GP and when you do they misdiagnose you. Even worse some times when you know for a fact that you need a specialist they will not refer you because they think everything can be cured by them or by pain medication. Don’t get me wrong they are providing a relatively valuable service but shouldn’t EGOS be left at the door when it comes to medicine? Also how many people agree with me when I say that the majority of doctors out there on the free medical system have zero or little bedside manner? Is it too much to ask for some civility when you are ill?

Sadly unless people start complaining and stop being complacent this is not going to change, Don’t get me wrong I do not believe the doctors are to blame for being in a flawed system. But maybe with some constructive criticism from us they might improve the system and get it working the way its supposed to.

  • Love and breakups 8/10/08

    Hey there dear Drama Queens

Today’s blog is all about break ups ad how people treat each other during this final stage of most relationships. I know most people out there would have been broken up with someone or have been dumped by someone. So most people will probably be able to relate with what I am about to say.

Has anyone else realised that when a relationship ends usually one of the two parties is left with severe issues. This is usually not due to what was going on during the relationship, although of course there are exceptions to this, but mainly due to the breakup itself. I want you to think back at time when you have had a relationship ended by someone else and think about how that person went about doing it and what latent issues that left in your psyche?

See? That’s exactly what I mean. The relationship might have been good but because the breakup was bad the memory is forever tainted. What’s most ANNOYING is that these issues are then carried into the next relationship. This is when the problems begin; people need to consider that when they break up in a bad manner with someone and they leave them with issues this is always going to be reflected in their future relationships and this is what people commonly call “baggage”. Think about how many people you found attractive and decided to pursue a relationship with them, only to realise that they are “damaged” due to their former relationship and their former break up. Isn’t it annoying? The thing is this situation goes both ways, I am sure people have been in the place of the person with the Baggage as well.

That’s why I implore you all out there reading this to take this into consideration and make the breakup as painless as possible. If not for any other reason as to the next person your ex will date. If this is done by more and more people it will eventually come back to you without knowing it. Someone you might date in the future who could have been damaged by a break up will be baggage free due to the person who broke up with them doing so in a positive manner.

I know most of you will say that there are some people out the that if you don’t do the break up in a bad way then the other person will not get that the relationship is over. In this case I say think back and consider whether you have led this person on. And if you have make sure you give them closure rather than issues and baggage, please if you don’t want to do this for the rest of us, do it for yourself and you future relationships.

  • Fashion, Sizes and skinny Jeans 7/10/08

Hello all you Cyber Drama Queens

Today’s rant will continue on the issue of fashion. Let me start off by saying that the business I run is based slam in the middle of the fashion industry. This post is dedicated to the sensitive issue of skinny jeans, the model size debate and the overall issue of ones personal image.

Let’s start with the matter of skinny jeans, which have become very popular over the past few years. Let’s just put one issue to rest. If you are large around the hips and are quite flat on top do the world a favour and try to wear a different type of trouser. Some ideas for this is wide leg trousers, this would help you achieve the best and most flattering look without people focusing on your shortcomings. Also sadly and bizarrely some people will be shocked by this Skinny jeans look better on skinny people as the name denotes. I know there are a lot of you out there that will be moaning right now. But please spare me the whinging. Oh boo hoo skinny jeans look good on everyone... aaaaaaaa no they don’t. Also please don’t comment that the fashion world is out to get the larger people. This is completely untrue and a completely narrow minded way of looking at things. If you are a person who is larger in size and does not think this skinny jeans trend is applicable to everyone then you would be right. But I offer that you should think how many items of clothing out there are not suitable or look awful on slimmer people? Ever thought about how all those normal or baggier fit clothes make slimmer people look like they are wearing their parents’ clothes? Do you see any of them complaining? No because they have better things to do than worrying about being prosecuted.

This brings us nicely to the subject of size and model sizes. People these days are banging on about anorexia and bulimia and that they are the product of all these skinny models on the catwalks and in the magazines. In this respect I will say that people are partially right. Yes anorexia and bulimia are bad illnesses (because that’s what they are.) Funny how people who self harm their selves are sectioned and are monitored by the medical services but people with eating disorders do not have to deal with this. Also don’t go banging on about people being large and having all the control in the world to change it. Think for a moment that they might be eating for a reason? However, I do believe that instead of whinging about their weight these people should accept their body and love it or if they want to change then just do it, But seriously do it properly. Eat healthy, smaller portions and exercise for Pete’s sake. No one said it would be easy.
If you are one of those people who hates people who are skinny... have you ever thought that they might be skinny by their nature and regardless of how much exercise they do and how much food they eat they cannot gain weight or get larger in size. How do you think these people feel? People keep banging on about the fashion industry giving people a complex about having to be slim. Have any of these people even stopped for a minute to consider the damage they are causing to naturally slim people who might be prosecuted for having an eating disorder or being a fashion victim, while the only things these people are doing is going on with life with the body type they were given? What I am trying to say is that as a society in our attempt to smooth out some issues we are creating far more.

On the note of model sizes, I partially agree with the masses. Not all models should be a size 0 or size 4 (UK). However think for a minute that these big fashion labels are basically a business and they are trying to sell a product and they have got a small point when they say clothes fit better and look better or smaller sizes. I do not fully agree with this, yes some clothes such as Skinny jeans (as mentioned above) look better on smaller size people. However there are equal amounts of clothing that look better on larger people, such as empire dresses and halter necks. These items only highlight skinny people’s shortcomings, while if they are worn by someone larger they emphasise their best qualities and minimise their less desirable qualities. And this brings me back to the point I made earlier that not all clothes are created for the same body type and fashion and clothing is a luxury and not a right! Wear what suits you and stop whinging about what doesn’t suit you, because I can almost guarantee that what suits you will be a sore point for someone else.

I will leave with you with a question. Now that the sizes are all for larger people what should skinny people wear to look good, again i am referring to the naturally skinny and not people with eating disorders. I know equal amounts of skinny people as I do larger people and they both have the same problem nothing to wear because it doesn’t come in their size. So next time you whinge about something not suiting your body type, think about the people who don’t even have the choice to buy that item in their size.

  • Job market situation

    Hello everyone

Here is the deal this Drama Queen is tiered of applying for jobs at the moment. I have to admit this is probably the worst time to be applying for jobs. Everyone is banging on about this recession and you know what they might have a point. However, I offer an alternative reason why the job market is so bad at the moment. Has anyone else realised that one can apply for jobs until the cows come home but the actual companies themselves never see your application or your CV. The reason for this my fellow drama queens is that the lovely people at job agencies are blocking the applications and then they send the lovely e-mail saying sorry but your basically not good enough.

Don’t you just love it that from one look at someone’s CV they can comment on whether or not that person is good enough? This would be understandable and ok if the CV’s ever got to the actual company one might be applying for. Also, how about this whole overqualified thing? This Drama Queen has just graduated from university with a second undergrad degree and is currently looking for a job. I did try to do everything the right way, i.e. worked all the way through my second degree in relevant roles and also ran my own business and still nothing. Seriously who are these people think they are kidding? Overqualified? That would basically translate that the company or recruiters think that the job is beneath you and that you would be TOO GOOD at it and consequently get bored. The thing is when did it become ok to punish people for being ambitious and play the game of yes let me get some experience during my degree and then the job hunt should be easier. Sadly, the people who are getting the jobs are the people who coasted through their degree and probably their life.

The joke of the matter is that when one talks to some recruiters on the phone or god forbid in person, they tell you “great you have relevant experience and it should be a doddle to get a job”. They lie. They are just raising the numbers they have as applicants.

I will however say this drama queen is not completely irrational, I do realise that this is the system for a reason, companies do not have enough time or resources to do the recruiting themselves and this is why they hire the dreaded Job agencies. Nevertheless, I will ask you this, doesn’t it seem like the best way for a company to spend their money would be to spend it in hiring staff themselves and having full control over who they hire. This would make sense, wouldn’t it? Being more proactive in getting the people who will be doing all the work in order to make the company successful and thus earning you more money?

Anyway I think this Queen has rambled enough

  • First Entry 7/10/08

Firstly I would like to say a huge hello to everyone out there who may be reading this. If like myself you consider yourself to be a bit of a Drama Queen and like to get things off your chest then this blog might interest you. If not still have a quick look you might be surprised. I have taken the decision to write this blog as a way for me to vent about certain issues I see with some current situations.

I do not claim to be a great writer and so please consider that before you think this blog is grammatically wrong or you do not like the way I write about things. I will write this blog in everyday speech. No poncey “correct” English for me and also this blog will be in stream of consciousness. Meaning what I think I write, nothing gets censored.

Hmmm... What else... well you might want to know a little more about me! Well I won’t divulge too much because I mean “Hello!!! Look at where you are”. I would characterise myself as a young individual who has certain opinions about current situations and likes to have a good moan about the system of how things work. Let me clarify that this is by no means going to be a serious blog. I will be blogging about general and varied issues, such as: Fashion, Current trends, the Job market, the Dating scene, the way we all treat one another and Ignorant people (you will figure out soon, I DO NOT suffer fools easily).

Right I think that is more than enough of an introduction. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
